Night Visions quickly becomes tiresome to listen to, and was a chore to finish. There's dubstep, arena rock, emotional lyrics, chorus chants. Overall, Night Visions is a pretty great debut album from ID, with a few flaws.

"Radioactive" is a groundbreaking, earth-shaking song that you need to listen to at max volume to fully enjoy. "Underdog" sounds like it could be a Passion Pit song, and that's not a bad thing. The lyrics on this album are not normally great, but they are never really bad either. "Demons" is great lyrically and musically. The final song on this album is really impressive musically. "Bleeding Out" starts off slow and dull, but quickly becomes something fantastic with it's dark lyrics and music. Besides these two tracks, every song this album is enjoyable, interesting, and highly-likeable. "Every Night" is painfully repetitive and "On Top of the World" has cheerful music and lyrics that get old really fast. It’s definitely not the best that Imagine Dragons can do, but it has planted the seed of what a major label indie rock band can and should be, and I have confidence that this band is on the way to continue producing high quality music in the future. The music on this album is well-made and interesting throughout. There are dissatisfied sighs being held back as I say this, but Night Visions is just that.

Being a longtime fan, I know that Imagine Dragons has the potential to be much better than this, but as far as Night Visions goes, I’d strongly recommend listening to the tracks mentioned in this review, but other than that, you’re not missing out on too much. To avoid misunderstanding, by no means am I saying that Night Visions is a bad album it just simply doesn’t stand out enough. Upon listening to Night Visions three times through, I still had trouble differentiating between some tracks, because the sound, rhythm, and overall feel of the songs were essentially the same, which is never a good thing. The only downfall of this lively track, infused with empowering lyrics and a catchy main melody on the mandolin, might be that it had raised the bar so high for Night Visions that it sets some hopeful listeners up for disappointment.Īside from a couple songs that essentially hold together the framework for the rest of the album, such as “Demons,” “Radioactive,” “On Top of the World” and as mentioned before, “It’s Time,” the others seem plain and over-commercialized. One of the singles that made its way out before the album was even released, “It’s Time”, has been heard at Wimbledon, the MLB All-Star Game, and in the trailer for hit blockbuster “Perks of Being a Wallflower.” The band makes use of an arena rock sound, while taking the almost expected route and dipping into a bit of electro and dubstep.

2 on the Billboard 200, but it unfortunately fails to meet the expectations of many fans.Ī large number of songs on this album have already been released in their previous EP, Continued Silence, making for a rather anticlimactic ending to the waiting in anticipation from the band’s large fan base.īut for first time listeners, this album isn’t bad at all. The album was a success in the first week, debuting at No.
